after visiting the capital of cambodia, we continued our journey to “capital” of khmer empire. yes, our midnight bus had stopped at siem reap, one of the most visited city in cambodia. siem reap is known as the gateway to angkor region. of course our highlight is angkor. we stayed in king angkor villa for 2 nights and ready to conquer angkor in the next day.
some say that angkor is one of the 7 wonders of the world. but after i googled, i did not find any statement of that. angkor is a region of cambodia and served as the seat of the khmer empire. all i know is that angkor is a huge complex consists of temple complexes inside. we went about 5 am to watch sunrise in angkor wat. angkor wat is one of the biggest temple complex in angkor. it is famous for sunrise best spot. i shot for many times, from dawn to morning, as you can see in pictures above. but i only put the best shot here.
there are lot of stones with carving all around the place. i don’t know the meaning of the carving. i just enjoyed the view around. moreover, we did not hire a tour guide. there were conservation everywhere while we were visiting angkor wat. but i could still enjoy the scenery around.
done with angkor wat, we moved to the next temple by riding tuk tuk. you can’t take a walk to the next temple because i told ya that angkor is a HUGE complex, so we have to take transportation to move around. the next temple is bayon. all i can remember, there are huge buddha faces around the place.
satisfied with buddha faces, we moved to the next temple. wait. yes the picture above is a temple. it is called terrace of elephant. it looks like bunch of stones, isn’t it? but that is a temple, without any roof over the place. we just took some photos there and moved to the next place.
the next temple is called baphuon. this is one of my favorite temples in angkor. baphuon is surrounded by forest. there is long way to get inside the temple, i call it catwalk. there are lots of big stone along the ‘catwalk’. short and sandals are not allowed to enter the temple. even if you cover your legs with pashmina. unfortunately, my friend, keti, wore short that day so she could not enter the temple. luckily, i wore long pants so i could enter the temple. stones everywhere. people went upstairs to see around from the high but i did not go. too exhausted that time. so i waited downstairs.
and… here we go! this is the highlight of angkor, based on my list. ta prohm is located a kilometer east of angkor thom. there are many gigantic trees cover up the temple. ta prohm is one of the location used in tomb raider movie. i was speechless and delighted by the scenery. plus, i met for the first time with a beautiful stranger here. hehehehe!
the last place we visited was bakheng. we went there to watch sunset. we had to climb for miles vertically in the forrest to get there. even though the sunset did not happen as my expectation (i thought we would watch sun goes down among temples), i was happy because… taraaa! we meet again, hey beautiful stranger. like a stalker, we took his picture and i thought he realized it hahaha. i don’t care because the chance to meet him maybe once in a lifetime.
we went back to hostel about 6 pm. the next day, we just went out to old market near hostel to buy some food. i bought a plate of fried corns with sauce. this snack tasted great! i bought it for 2 times hehehe. then we went back to hostel and played cards until fall asleep. then we were woken up for midnight bus which would take us to bangkok.
